Kadin is about 9 months old and he is looking for a family who wants an active love buddy. Kadin is a very smart boy that likes to exercise his brain with puzzles and search events as well as his body. He enjoys walks, car rides, playing with toys and other dogs. He has briefly been exposed to a cat and other than normal curiosity showed no signs of aggression as he would much rather play with his humans or other dogs. If you do have a cat, training would be a must with him and the kitty. We have not tested him with children but if your kids are over 10 and use to large dogs we think he will be ok. Kadin just underwent surgery on both front legs to remove bone chips and clean out damaged cartilage around his elbows. This has not slowed him down but the vet does recommend he not become a jogging companion or hiking buddy to help prevent any future problems. He loves fetch, but because of surgery, for now, he has to be calm until he recovers. You see Kadin can not run very fast, it is more like a moderate trot due to bad elbows. Because we had to keep him calm he is a little behind on his on leash walking skills, meeting other people without jumping on them and barking to say hello to other dogs. He is however a young puppy with lots of excitement, a zest for life and super smart. Kadin is still struggling with the house training piece but if you have a dog door he does know how to use it. He is kennel trained and knows how to come when called, sit and down. He loves tummy rubs and being close to his owner, he is a very loving, special little boy for one who had a rough start in life. The brief descriptions we have posted about our dogs are based on our observations and interactions with them since coming to our rescue. We will take our dogs out into public areas to watch their behaviors around strangers and other pets while walking them. We also place them in a daycare facility to ensure that they are sociable with other dogs and if not, which dogs they do not perform well around, such as small dogs or another large breed. When available, we place our dogs in a foster home to observe their house manners and help them to trust people again. If we observe bad behaviors we work with them to correct behaviors such as jumping on furniture or paws on the counters. There will be times that we will not be able to provide the answers to some of your questions – like are they good with children or cats – especially rescued dogs found as strays with little or no background. Even though we spend as much time as possible interacting with all our dogs, and they behave a certain way when with us, German Shepherd Rescue of the Rockies cannot guarantee their future behavior with their new families.
